Look for glare shield edge trim at Cleaveland Tools. I think that is what you seek.

The larger the edge radius, the better. This is a dangerous edge in a sudden stop. I used split aluminum 3003 tubing and several layers of split vinyl hose and finally covered with the leather I used on the top of the glare shield which was left over from seat cushion upholstery.
Cheap / quick / easy / minimalist. Not easy to buy from US I presume, but a search for "PVC beading" might find something similar at 15 cents a foot
