Rotax SB-912-067

There are two criteria to check to determine applicability of the SB. The engine serial number and the carburetor part number/serial number.

I have checked the Rotax maintenance manuals and have not been able to find where these carburetor numbers are located on the carbs. Does anyone know?

Also, since the new "marked" floats will have the same part numbers as the old ones, how will one know with confidence that an order placed for the new floats will result in the correct new floats being shipped? In other words, how will our suppliers like Lockwood and CPS handle an inventory with good and bad parts having the same part numbers? Are all the old, bad, floats going to be purged out of all of the supply pipelines before the new "marked" floats are put into stock?

Just wonderin'

The confusion continues.

Correction: Tony, I found my carb numbers hidden away on the side facing the centreline of the engine, not aft side as I first said. (Checked at the hangar today). Not particularly easy to read with the engine installed.

Hmmmm... Page 7 of 9 on SB-912-067 Dated 2/27/2015 clearly shows the identifying marks on the new floats. Easy enough to verify YOU have the correct floats. I'm not so sure any "old" floats are even in stock anywhere. I know LEAF, Lockwood, and CPS don't have any.

"The sky is falling"?

I know that I can identify the correct floats. What doesn't seem clear is how the suppliers will know. Are they going to open each float packet and inspect to see if the "mark" is there before they send them out?

I know for a fact that a least one counterfeit Rotax part (not the float) with Rotax part number is in the system. http://www.vansairforce.com/community/showpost.php?p=934709&postcount=1

And nope, the sky isn't falling. Just pointing out that not changing the part number on a part change is not acceptable practice in aviation.

Tony ole buddy....

Why not ask 'em yourself and report back to us?

I have complete confidence in LEAF, Lockwood, and CPS to ship the correct parts without any stress.

Let us know what they say.

Dave, Ole Buddy, maybe I am wrong, but I am sensing condescension. If so, you need to knock it off. Tony is a long time contributor to this forum, a talented builder and has many friends. If I am wrong, I offer apologies.

Apology accepted. Now...to the root of the matter......"Our" suppliers CPS, LEAF, and Lockwood are well known and I'm sure only deal with genuine Rotax supplied parts. No "old" floats are available from all of these vendors as of 9PM yesterday. I suggested if he was unsure he should call them to be reassured how these guys are sure of the correct floats and report back to us.
Before I retired I long ago learned if I thought there was a problem with something and I mentioned it to the boss, I'd better have a suggestion as to the solution. It greatly reduces the "whine" factor.
