Splitting a narrow deck case without pressure plates

Because I’m lazy, has anyone devised a workable method for splitting narrow deck cases that doesn’t involve the Lycoming tool (or DIY equivalents)?

For reference, I’m referring to the old style of case which has the through studs anchored on one side; it’s not possible to tap them out like on a wide deck.

Dead Blow hammer works most of the time.

This has worked for me. Even though the stud is threaded into one side, you can still tap them to separate the case. Just BE SURE you are tapping on the non-captive side. If it is tough. Get two angle irons. Capture the angle to the case with the non through studs and use nuts on the through studs to push against it.

You can rent or buy a puller from Ryan Machine. He makes a narrow deck tool. I just bought mine he has very good customer service and a great tool.

I made one, very simple and cheap. PM if you need details.
