Oil Filler Neck Help

Ghardin

I'm New Here
I have a 2005 RV8A with a Lycoming O360 Mattituck and the oil filler neck broke... right before departure at Airventure this year . The question is I can't find the original replacement 9.25" long and part number AEL22780 which can't seem to be found. Does anyone have any ideas on a replacement or if there is an aluminum option out there?

Thanks for your help!!!

Depending on how/where it broke, you can splice it with hardware store pvc, glue, and a set screw or two. I’ve used internally wrenching hex screws in that application..

The tube itself is fine. It's the hole that the safety wire threads through that broke.

I may have the correct length aluminum version -- PM your contact details, and the dimensions and I'll check the "pile of parts" tomorrow.

Try a hose (worm drive) clamp then saftey to that? I find most people put their dip sticks in way too tight.. just two fingers till it touches.. maybe a tiny bit more.. just barley snug.. they always appear to only tighten themselves more. If the tube is loose in the case, it’ll eventually break either the tab or the saftey wire..

Throw that plastic tube in the trash, these aren't Honda engines.

Superior makes an aluminum tube that fits perfect under my RV8 cowl. It was slightly longer than my old setup, so I drilled the old dipstick out of the cap and made a new, longer one. Pinned it in place and it's been great. https://www.superiorairparts.com/SuperiorEligibilities/SuperiorPart.php?strPartNum=SL75767

Also, ditch the paper gasket and go with these: https://realgaskets.com/product/dipstick-tube-base-gasket/
Thanks! I’ll check those out.
