Eagle’s Nest Projects is pleased to welcome Granbury High School, Granbury, Texas, into our growing family of campuses building and flying the Van's RV-12 ELSA aircraft. "Location, Location, Location"… Granbury High School has all three; the high school and athletic fields are situated on a hilltop overlooking Granbury’s active GA friendly airport, Pecan Plantation (0TX1), a premier aviation community and home to EAA Chapter 983 is a five minute flight away, and the community-at-large surrounds the school with guidance and support.
Granbury ISD is committed to STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and recently completed a large expansion to the high school for CTE (Career Technology Education) curriculums. The new facility is also home to a large classroom and shop area for Project Lead the Way Aerospace Engineering and the build of Granbury's first Eagle’s Nest RV-12. The classroom and shop also have a view of Granbury airport - two steps out the back door and build-students can watch aircraft arriving and departing the airport that will soon become home to their very own RV-12.
Overwhelming community support - when the community first learned that students at Granbury high school would be building an airplane, the airport offered free hangar space, several CFIs volunteered their services, more than 20 residents of Pecan Plantation and members of EAA Chapter 983 volunteered to mentor the students through the build process, and the list goes on.
Under the leadership and direction of District Superintendent, Dr. James Largent, and CTE director, Judy Gentry, Granbury ISD is soaring to new levels in STEM education. Their shared vision and combined efforts have demonstrated well that anything is possible in Granbury!
