North Fox PIREP
I flew up to North Fox Island with the boys last weekend and had a great time.
We spent time hiking the beaches, swimming, stone skipping contests, and catching snakes.
The campground is in great shape, and we enjoyed the opportunity to camp in such a quiet and remote place.
Local pilots, working with the the Recreational Aviation Foundation, have done a great job in rehabilitating the runway. I won't say it is smooth, but there are no major problems with the surface and I will be back to camp again. Runway condition is a subjective thing, so your mileage may vary. One thing to be aware of is that if you venture into the woods the mosquitoes are pretty bad this time of year, and I'm not one who is bothered by a few bugs. Earlier in the spring or fall would be prime times to visit.
This was one day in a longer trip in which we also visited Charlevoix and Sault. St. Marie. Both are good places to visit. If you visit the Soo, make sure to take the boat tour through the locks, it is a good tour.
