While looking at the alternator and starter, set up on my IO-390, I was looking at pictures of other engines and alternators. The set up that comes from vans has the alternator linked to the starter. I’ve seen some pictures of the alternator hung from a bracket on a separate boss mount, not tied across to the starter. My engine has that boss mount with nothing attached to it because the alternator is connected to the starter.
What is better about this set up then having the alternator on its own bracket separate from the starter?
