Hello have two pitot tubes from a salvage auction and wanted to use them on my RV 7. It says it is a 24 volt P tube yet when i hooked it up to 12 V it worked well gettting quite hot to the touch.

Is there any reason I shouldnt use this? Cant find much on here regarding pitiot tubes.

Thanks for your response.

What is the resistance of the tube you can use ohms to figure out the current draw to see if in limits

You can get replacement elements. Buy 12 volt ones. It should get really hot.
Not sure about little airplane tubes but on the airliners you'll leave skin behind if you touch one that's on.

Apparently, this pitot might not have a replaceable element -

here is a thread with your plight - very little information, though

http://www.matronics.com/archive/archive-get.cgi?AeroElectric-Archive.digest.vol-jb

It says that the aero-instruments model is not replaceable. You might check or swap for a 12 v unit.

Don't know if this link works here, but search for pitot on aeroelectric if you get the splash page. It has an example to test the heated pitot - just an electrical side, but something definitive.
