Went to look at Colorado colors

Looks like we might have been a week or two late this year. First photo is going west to east over Marshall Pass.

On Friday (10/6) 'ArlingtonRV' and I flew our two RV-8s to Richland (KRLD) for lunch at Ann's Best Creole & Soul Food Cafe located at the airport. We flew back via Moses Lake to see how many 737 Max's are still parked at Grant County Airport (KMWH). I was surprised at how many are still there.

A shot with Leavenworth in the lower right corner, Mt. Stuart and the Stuart Range in the center, and Mt. Rainier in the background. The haze in the foreground and background is wildfire smoke.

San Juan mountains, Colorado

Well during the weekday, but still counts I suppose.
Pic of San Juan mountains near Mancos Colorado.
Largest peak is Hesperus Mountain.
Visited this area on the ground later. Aspen color was perfect.

Something weird with focus of the phone camera.
Some parts focused some fuzzy.
Oh well.

Who can pass up half-price fuel?

Great deal.. makes great sense to fill them all up, given that you have to fly to get gas from your homebase anyhow!

Yesterday I went out and scoped out some motorcycle roads in the RV-4. After my work was done, I headed back to the hangar after some fun canyon flying, and seeing some of my favorite roads from the air.

Back to the hangar today to clean up the plane..

YE flight rally, Perkins Field, Overton, NV

Joined in a big YE event in S. Nevada, east of Las Vegas, hosted by the Las Vegas EAA chapter and the 99s. Perkins Field had their 4th annual event (as I understand it), and its big. I flew down in the 8A with a student pilot who helped some on the ground. Nice flight over a remote desert part of Nevada.

100 kids flown on a 20 minute standardized, very scenic route. Slow starting off but ran smoothly. Rotary Club did breakfast and pilot got lunch too. About half experimentals, mostly RV 7, 8, and one =10. I didnt take any pics. Biggest YE rally I have attended in my 13 years in Nevada.

Flew up to annual Petit Jean RV fly in. Met many new friends. Made memories and burned avgas, great combo.

Smashed an amazing amount of bugs on my way home at 4500, I would hit swarms of stuff. Several times I thought it could possibly be oil mist covering my windscreen, top of the cowl was even wet and stained.

Sunday flight for a boys work day……

Holy smokes. I have never seen that many bugs on a plane. A car yes but not a plane!!

Once I was landing on a grass strip by an apiary. Took a can of Pledge just to clean the honey from the canopy and the prop. The rest dried and fell off the leading edges in a week :D

WOW. Happened once to me but not like THAT!!! Where were you?

Western Mo/Eastern KS, flown the route hundreds of times many different seasons. The main mess happed level at 4500, never had bugs that little that high. Occasionally you’ll smack a big juicy one but it really looked more like oil mist than bugs for a while.

Was able to make the 1000+ mile trip to Kentucky to visit family, friends and to get this photo of what I think is one of the prettiest and historical GA airports in the country, where my aviation adventure began some 53 years ago. Sorry for the rotation of the photo, don't know why or how to fix it.
