Saturday morning I flew Alex DeDominicis back over to his house after he dropped his RV-7A off at Randy’s for an annual. Alex was my transition trainer 21+ years ago and gave me my tailwheel signoff in my RV-6. Here it is 7,683 days later and we’re still in the same seats. <g>

Back home. Time to mow the lawn.

Took the oldest to KState Salina Girls day, it was more geared for the younger crowd but did get some time chatting with the students.

Flew a same-day out and back from Louisiana to LAW to see one of my former students graduate from US Army basic training at 0930. With my schedule and the times, it was only possible in a 200+mph airplane. Gotta love these RVs.

Took the daily 1000NM flight and ended up over Whiteman AFB. Not much to see but I'm guessing I could land and takeoff about 6 times on this 12,400' runway

Parents weekend at VA Tech. 4TN3-KBCB and back.

The kids took us to a pre-game Frat party.

VA Tech 38 vs Pitt 21

Cruising along with a little tail push.

Tug back in the barn.

More Phase 1 task based testing. Fuel run for cheaper 100LL. Calibrate Dynon magnetometer for a 2nd time, correctly this time. Installed last piece of interior, dash pad. Washed and polished in prepping for RV Gathering at Petit Jean.

Work flying yesterday, so didn't get a chance to do any RV flying until today.

I arrived at the airport about 1.5 hours before sunset, but didn't have a place to go. Thought I'd go scope out some roads out east that I've seen some aircraft overfly, through a canyon. But the weather didn't allow.. So instead, I simply flew east and overflew three of our casinos on Indian land for an aerial view, and fooled around some. Then headed back to the hangar.

Fun 25 minute jaunt.

Got a text about meeting up for lunch on Sun from my RV buddies Marvin & Sandy. Loaded up Lil’ dude and extra Lil’ girl and headed south a tad late.
Lil’ dude has been learning ForeFlight and spotted their tail # on ADSB, glad we briefed me as lead cuz my join-ups definitely need work.
Landed at “Dads Happy Place” and took the boat to lunch, 87* air and 72* water is pretty stellar for water sports on the return trip.
Finished the day with a takeoff at dusk with smooth wait and a tailwind, hard to beat a day like today!
I was really slacking on the pics but I got a few.

quick portland trip

Got our RV-10 out of the paint shop end of the week just in time for the weekend. I did a quick overnight trip to Portland area to help a friend wiring his RV-14 for first panel power up. Felt good to fly the 10 again after having it offline at the paint shop for quite a while. Excellent scenery along the route from UAO to home base at COE.

Plane in her new paint on the ramp at UAO parked close to the mothership. I should have taken the pic from a different angle to get VA in the background :).
Took all the mtn pics within a few minutes of each other during the flight home... Mt Hood, Rainer & Adams, and St Helens. Last one is the vibrant sunset flying around Lake Coeur d Alene last night.

Gotta love these airplanes!

Looking good, Ben!
Been thinking about you the last several times that I've been in COE. Next time I am there for any duration, I'll shoot you a message.

Thank you Skyscraper! Man version of a teddy bear.

I thanked it for carrying me 1,000 of the 1,500 hours I needed to get the ATP knocked out. Check-ride was Sunday.

‘ArlingtonRV’ and I usually try to get together on Saturdays and fly our two RV-8s to lunch or to one of the several aviation museums in the Pacific Northwest. For awhile now we have heard the same group of pilots out of Pearson Field (KVUO) on the unofficial air-to-air frequency flying somewhere also. We finally met them at Westport (14S) several weeks ago. It turns out that the fellow flying the RV-4 with his son was Russ McCutcheon. Also in the group is usually a turbocharged Mooney and a Rockwell Commander 114 (or maybe a 112).

On Saturday, 9/30, we had taken off from Westport (14S) headed back to Arlington (KAWO) after lunch and heard Russ and company headed back to Pearson from Forks (S18). We were on diverging flight paths, but I wanted to intercept them. The closest was the Mooney at 7500’ but I was further north and slightly behind but 2,000’ higher. I turned toward the Mooney and was able to catch him, trading altitude for airspeed, but staying below Vne in the smooth air (glad the Dynon SkyView allows Vne to be entered in terms of TAS. That really helps to know what Vne is in terms of IAS as a function of altitude and OAT.).

Anyway, here is the pic of my RV-8 that James, the Mooney pilot, took:

SkyView screenshot during the descent (the AP was off but the FD was still on). 'ArlingtonRV' is the VFR target behind and above me.

Great fun!
