Flight Advisory - GPS

Capflyer

Well Known Member
Perhaps not pertinent to the whole country but many pilots flying up or down the East coast take the East side of the DC area over the Chesapeake Bay and Eastern Shore, especially when IFR. Be aware that a flight advisory has been issued for GPS testing starting today through May 27th. If you are going to be flying through this area be sure to check NOTAMs. Here is some of the info:

- During testing, the GPS signal may be unreliable or unavailable within a 15NMR centered on the PXT VOR (Patuxent Naval Air Station).

- Pilots are strongly encouraged to report anomalies during testing to the appropriate ARTCC to assist in the determination of the extent of GPS degradation during tests.

- The NOTAM in this advisory may change with little or no notice. Pilots are advised to check NOTAMs frequently for possible changes prior to operations in the area. NOTAMs will be published at least 24hrs in advance of any GPS tests.
