I'm working on installing wingtips. I've followed the directions in section 5 and the joint is flawless. In fact, it is too tight. There is no room for paint. Any thoughts how I can get a nice uniform joint? The post below is a synopsis of the notes in chapter 5. Tape would have been great to use, but it won't go nicely around the radius of the leading edge, so a releasing agent was used.

I used tape on the balance of the joint, but the joint is far too tight for paint. The joint is filled with a dry mix of micro as the joggle was horrible.

Thoughts?

You can slip a piece of sandpaper into the joint and drag it along to remove some of the tightness. I think 80 grit would do the job.

I?ve used a fine toothed hack saw blade to lightly saw this joint, using the edge of the aluminum as a guide. Just go slow and don?t saw too deep. Results in a uniform panel joint
