Default Buck meets RV...looking for QB wing

You may recall my post in lessons learned a couple of weeks ago about my deer strike with my RV7. I am posting this inquiry to see if there is anyone out there with a left QB wing available for purchase or trade delivery positions for a replacement? This might help me get going on repairs faster, given the back order time for a QB wing. Quotes for building up a standard wing, as part of the total repair estimate, may be prohibitive due to labor cost. Hope to find the best way to get quality repairs without having the insurance company push to total the aircraft.

Send me a PM if you have a spare wing

Default QB wing wont work

Mitchell

I don't think a QB wing is an option. Your spar is matched to the center section of your plane. I did QB wings when I built my airplane and they sent me a matched center section with my Fuselage kit when they shipped my wings off to be built QB.

When I have seen these types of repairs done they were actually rebuilt in place. If that is not possible I am not sure what the answer is. You may reach out to Vans with pictures of the damage and see what their suggestions are.

Hope they have a good answer.

The insurance company is willing to total it? Let it go!

Sure, it can be repaired, but why would you want it? Right now you can get all your money, and simply go shopping again. The alternate is a long repair process, usually a lot longer than estimated. Then when you sell (everybody does, eventually), you'll have to explain, explain, explain...and probably still take a hit in the wallet.

RV wings are quite repairable, if the spar carrythrough is intact. I think if you find the right person to inspect and repair it (who is very familiar with RV construction) you might end up with a new engine & prop and a plane that's just as good as when you bought it. Sorry for the bad luck though, jeez!

Default Matching wing

I thought all the prepunched kits are so accurate a new wing can be installed to an existing center section.
That said, if the spar is ok, it should be repairable.

Default Starting over...

Today I was presented with two options by the insurance company...

1 - Get a payout for the amount of the repair estimate with any additional expense from hidden damage or overage my responsibility, or

2 - A full payout for the insured value

Given those two options it was an easy decision...I will soon begin looking for a new (to me) RV-7.

My guess is the airplane will soon hit the auction market and someone will have the opportunity to get it flying once again.

Thanks to DR and the VAF community for all of the help along the way.
