Fuse Floor Pans

rvanstory

Well Known Member
In process of putting in front floor pans on RV10. All is going well EXCEPT, the holes that are to be riveted to the lower fuse channels are WAY off! Match drilling all went well, but now, they aren't even close. I can't force it over enough to even get close.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?

+1 for Dave

I was trying to remember how I did that row of rivets. I think it is the outside skin bend tends to pull that area out if it is a little under bent.

I had the same problem and solved it the same way. I used two and walked them along the row pulling things in line and adding clecos. HF has a nice set for about $5 I use all of the time to line things up for riveting, fish wires thru holes etc..

It's not that it's underbent but the weight of the structure itself causes it to sag and spread there. Taking the weight off by lifting at the top of the side skins helps and pushing in from the outside will get you the rest of the way. The awls are great for precise alignment. Once the pans are riveted, this area is rock solid.

Similar story on the RV-9 fuselage. Just a bit too much sag between the saw horses made it difficult to line up the various floor and side pieces. I took out the sag and everything got much easier to line up again.
