Installing steps on a 6A

I am doing a condition inspection on a 1998 RV-6A with no cabin steps and the owner is asking to have the cabin steps installed.

How difficult is it to install the steps after the acft has been completed?

I do have the 6/6A drawings and it looks like it might be an interesting install after the fact.

Drill out the baggage floor(s). After that, step installation is same as during new construction. Removing the canopy, if a slider, during step install will make the job go easier.

Step install

The step kit comes with instructions for a 6a.
Make sure you get the modified steps so they don't have to be replaced later for cracks.

Paint

Paint them before the install. It's no fun to try to maneuver a spray gun between the installed step and the ground. You can put another coat or two over the riveted area after the install.
