G5/gtn altitude alert

We are about to undergo an avionics upgrade and add dual G5?s and a gtn 650. Presently, we have a kln 94 and one of the things that I love about it is the ability to set a target altitude and have it produce an audio alert (beep) when I deviate from that altitude.

I know the g5 does visual alerting from deviations in altitude but I really like the audio alerts. The gtn has a vcalc utility but I can?t tell if it will issue audible alerts on deviation based on the manual. It?s also fairly buried in the utilities menu structure (the kln has a dedicated alt button that?s spoiled me). It would be amazing if the gtn could be slaved to the g5 altitude bug.

Anyone have any ideas about how I can keep the altitude audio alerts?

Hello Kevin,

If you use the G5 as your autopilot (why wouldn't you?) and install the GMC 507 autopilot control panel and servos you get the audio output which includes altitude alert tones at 1,000' and 200'.

And a full-blown GTN installation with autopilot example.

Cool! I can?t find that feature in the manual. Is it only call outs for 1000 and 200 agl? If my IFR alt is 6000, I?d love an audio alert if I wander below 5900.

The eventual goal is a 507 but we are stuck with an old stec 30 until funds are available (and the aml includes the Tiger).

Hey Kevin,
I don't have the G5 but the G3x gives a beep from set altitude (bug)not agl.
Also gives a 500' audible agl.
