Wing Tip question

My wing kit came with grey colored fiberglass wing tips. It is about 18 months old.

A buddy of mine is building his 9a in my hangar. He has just started his build, but he bought an older kit (10+ years?) and the wingtips he has are white fiberglass.

Aside from the obvious color difference, is there any other difference between the tips?

A friend with an RV-7 had the same situation. VANS told him that there was no difference in quality nor use. What was even more strange in this case was that the shape of the wing tip was different from an RV-7 that was ordered a few years earlier. Continue building was the message.
