Question for Dan H and Dave A

Larry DeCamp

Well Known Member
I am fabricating a felt seal for the prop extension. Dave A had referenced a 45degree tapered ID to form a flex seal . With 1/2" thick felt, a line to line fit would create a significant high resistance path to leakage.

Recently, it was suggested the crank moves up 1/4" relative to the cowl in flight. So my question is how tight does this seal really need to be and does it add to transmitted vibration ?

Larry, my shaft seal was based on standard black rubber baffle material. I like all the felt seals I've seen too. I doubt there is much vibration transmission with either approach, but only a dedicated measurement would truly tell the tale.
