Aircraft rebuild

I found a aircraft for sale that has been in a storm. The owner is not the builder. He has a copy of the airworthiness but not the original. He is selling it as parts only in the bill of sale. What are the options? build as my own build? apply for replacement airworthiness certificate? I don't plan on keeping the aircraft more then a year after I fix it.

Mike, just my $.02 here, but I would check with Mel or another person knowledgeable in things aircraft registration related. Maybe even the local FSDO??

You dont want start something like this only to see it evolve into a large container of annelids......
