Rotax Soft Start Module

I have been having some hard start problems, and then some no start. After lots of advice from you guys, it turns out I have/had an after market Conair Soft Start Module, that was bad. bypassing the unit, all is going well. The module left the factory in late 2011, and was sold through BullyHawk.com

My question is, how important is it to have a soft start module for wear and tear on the engine? And other reasons? I'm wondering whether I can just eliminate it from the ignition stream. Thoughts?

I'd respond this way - -

Soft-start became standard several years ago. Also changed the flywheel after that to further help prevent starter sprag problems. That indicates Rotax considers it important. Either 'fix' is expensive.

If your engine is anywhere near TBO you might just go to overhaul. If there is considerable time left you might as well bite the bullet and replace the soft start.
