Smile 1st Eclipse for my RV8

My wife & I took off today from 0A7 (just south of Asheville, NC) to go to 18A (Franklin County Georgia) to see total solar eclipse (about 30 minutes flight) Previously had evaluated Anderson SC and Picker SC but seemed like they were going to be super busy.

Quick 30 minute flight. Once we landed, talked airplanes to others who had flown, After picnic lunch in the cool A\C, we then adopted the preferred Solar Eclipse postures in our camp chairs. Was cloudy at first then severe clear at about 50% coverage to full eclipse.

Left about 1/2 hour after total eclipse. Holy &^$&^$% batman, look at all the traffic. Started a climb to 7,500' for cooler air and less traffic.

Asked my wife to keep her head on a swivel for short 30 minute flight back home. Spend last 10 minutes outside our hangar watching the sun break free of the last vestiges of the moons presence.

Great, simple RV day

Nice looking RV! So how many planes were there at Franklin? Cheapest gas in the tri-state area! On the Flight Aware display, see that tiny cell of precipitation up by the GA/SC/NC border? That's where I live. I wuz' robbed!
