Default Tribute Tour Update Thread

The Richard VanGrunsven Tribute Tour is underway! I just received a check-in message from the RV-1's Spot, which should mean that Roy Geer and Scott Card are about to depart Hicks Airfield and fly east. The RV-1 will stop for fuel along the way and hope to be at Dan Horton's in Wetumpka, AL, before dark.

Remember, you can also track their progress by going to the www.RV-1.org page and clicking on the Spot button in the lower right of the page.

We have been pretty low-key about events prior to SnF as this is a "shake-out" period. But, if all goes well, Dan is hosting an event on Thursday evening and Team Rv will have the plane with them in the broad Atlanta area over the weekend. Details of these events are at:

Make your plans to see the plane somewhere along its route!

Default Fare well, Texas!

Looks like the RV-1 has left Texas, probably for the last time after many years of residence. What a great adventure it has started.

Louise, you've been crazy busy! The tour schedule is at least 50% bigger than just a week ago! I like the addition of the "informal gatherings".

For those on the "fligt path", check out the updated list over at rv-1.org I'm looking forward to its travels thru VA and MD

Default It's a team effort!

This great VAF and EAA community has provided a bunch of regional event coordinators and Paul has a team of regional pilot coordinators that have carried MUCH of the load. And then, Ernie Butchard is doing some really heavy lifting by serving as the point on SnF and AirVenture, which are the most demanding events to coordinate. Bob Mills has pretty much done all the planning for the big, cross the continent Barnstorming part of the tour. Kevin Horton pulled together the Canadian stops on both ends of the country. So, there are lots of folks jumping in to make this tour a reality. I need to get a complete list togetheras a lot of folks are working on the planning.

It is subtle, but it does work on my iPad 1. Click where it says "Spot the RV-1!" down on the lower right part of the page.

Default log book

I have forgotton where I have posted. The RV-1 Flys grate if not as fast as we might have hoped. We might need to push up the power to get a little better speed. It is a small cockpit. My first leg was 2.6 hrs. that is about .6 more than is comfortable, but what a ride. I think one of the best things to look at will be the log book. It should have all of the pilots names in it that have flown the ONE along with some of their comments of the flight, or the plane, or the weather. Scott Card did get some photos along the way to Wetumpka Al. I am very proud to have had the chance to fly the RV-1 myself.
If you get a chance to see the ONE, be sure and doso. It is a pice of history.

Looking at the route http://rv-1.org/p/317 from KLWM to CCW4 Nova Scotia, is the RV1 really going to fly over that much water when a path over ground is just a short detour?

I expect that is becasue the tour map is only accurately showing the location of the tour stops, but is just drawing a straight line between them! Actual routes are secret to protect national security....
