Mis-drilled holes

I have a fastback build thread over in the RV-4 section, but I thought this is worth sharing with everyone. We bought the plane used and was storm damaged. After pulling the wings for transport we noticed that the rear wing spar carry through was mis-drilled and had two holes very close together. In my opinion this should have never passed inspection and the spar should have been replaced.
This particular mess-up would not be a deal breaker for me, because I planned on tearing the plane down to rebuild it anyway and it is an easy fix, but if it was a turn key plane I would definitely have second thoughts.

Wow

The original person should be called Mister Holes:eek:

Best wishes. The spar should replaced with new and ask vans for no holes so you can match the rest of the airframe.

Other than that Mrs Lincoln, how was the show?

After working on it for 3 months now we have found several things that were not up to FAA standards and is being corrected. One thing I noticed is there are no straight rivet lines anywhere. And yes there's a bunch of rough edges. We are going over every inch and fixing everything that needs it. Most of the fuselage and the entire tail section will be brand new. I got such a good deal on the plane and engine that the problems we ran into are worth the extra time and effort its going to take to get her airworthy again.
This site is a gold mine of information, and most of the problems would have gone unnoticed if it weren't for the info I got here, such as replacing the engine mount weldments on the older RV-4's due to cracking.
