Any suggestions on Oshkosh trip

We are travelling from New Zealand to LA a couple of weeks before Oshkosh and will be doing a road trip to meet with friends in Oshkosh.
Can anyone suggest any must see aviation places on the way, or any sites with a good list of places to see> Planning to use the direct route as suggested by google maps to get there.

Will let others add more but I will start off with:

Furnace Creek (Death Valley)
Hover Dam (Boulder City, NV - Las Vegas)
Grand Canyon

Not on the direct route but I enjoyed flying over "The Meteor Crater" so many times that I actually drove there. It would be a several hour detour off your direct Google Map trip.

It all depends on how many days you have in country as to how much you get to see along the route. Welcome to the USA.
