UAvionix Echo/SkyFYX grounding requirement

I'm about to install a UAvionix Echo/SkyFYX all-in-one system. The wiring diagram shows only two wires are needed, a power and a ground. My question: Is it likely that I'd be successful in grounding this system locally or would I have to run a wire back to my panel ground bus?

The reason I ask is that I am placing the unit, both the GPS and transceiver portions, aft of the baggage bulkhead and have limited room to run wires through the center tunnel. I am thus hoping I can simply run one wire for the power and then ground the system to the airframe locally.

For the many of you who have recently installed this system, have you grounded locally with success? I would appreciate any first-hand experiences.

Thanks.
