Oil cooler clear silicone

On page 49-07 we are asked to run clear silicone adhesive/sealant (not RTV). If it isn’t RTV then what? Why not RTV? This might be the only place for this?

What a coincidence that I was working this very page today. I opted for the silicone as advertised because heat should not be an issue here. It seemed to fill the little gaps between the fins of the exchanger really well.

check the date on your silicone

My first try was some old/expired sealant. It never cured. After cleaning it off, the second try was fine

Clear silicone adhesive IS a form of RTV... all RTV means is "room temperature vulcanizing" which all silicones which come from a tube are.

I used four types of sealants in most of my build. Clear RTV was the choice for the baffle anti-fret, and then the Loctite 598 for sealing baffle gaps around the engine proper.

1) Proseal -> fresh for the tanks, and kept in the freezer to use for all else later

2) Clear RTV -> Dow Corning 932 clear from ACS: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/cata...lONgSzH9tp7IsiOUfMAdi1fm1Z6gmw-EaAoBPEALw_wcB

3) High Temp RTV -> for baffle sealing and such: Loctite 598. https://www.henkel-adhesives.com/us...sealants--flange-sealants/loctite_si_598.html. What I like about this is it comes in a can so you don't have to use a caulk gun and you can cap it for use in many different sessions.
Note: permatex ultra black is similar

4) Permatex #2 -> for NPT fittings around the plane, fuel, oil etc (but NOT AN fuel line fittings that dry fit).

Thanks - I think I have the Dow stuff laying around!
