RV-7 Rudder pedals

During my trial fit of brakes and drilling the positions for the rudder pedal weldement, I noticed that my WD-655-L/R did not look like in the drawing nor like the other builders.



Notice the extra 'ear' on the innermost pedals for each position. There is an extra attachment. It's just like the ones where the rudder cable attach, but on the other side.

Anyone what that is for and why it has changed ?

My WD-655s are from November 2015.

..possibly the result of Van's standardizing on one part. The RV14 uses the ears on the inboard side, leaving those you would utilize unused. i.e. the exact opposite of your case.

Yes, the inboard tabs are extraneous for your plane. Either leave them, or cut them off. I did the latter, and touched them up with a little rattle-can primer and Rustoleum gloss white--a very good match for the more recent powder-coated parts.

The extra tab might keep your foot from slipping off the pedal...

I have been thinking of adding a couple of tabs just for that reason. Foot slides to inboard easily. Probably bolt something on for that.
