Cleaning carbon on pistons?

I am doing a top overhaul on an 0360 and need to remove the carbon build up on the pistons. What are some ways to do this?
 
Decarbing 2 cycle engines was a 100 hour inspection requirement back in my ultralight days. We used scotch bright pads, Hoppes #9 solvent, picks, whatever it took. ;)
