I want to checkerboard my RV9 rudder. To those that have gone there before -
What size should the squares be to look nice?

Rudder Checkerboard

I just applied a checkerboard pattern to my RV-8 Rudder. I used a square 4.5 inches on a side, parallel with the rib stiffener line. The 4.5 inches also matches the spinner checker size for middle row.

Three inch
You can easily grid off the squares using very fine tape. Them mask every other square. You will then have a very nice checkerboard rudder like mine!

I used 3" squares of vinyl. I also did the bottom of the flaps.
