Default A different kind of 'RV' question

Hi all,

Earlier this year we bought an RV....the motorhome use for Airventure and other adventures. We've attended the show for over 20 years but have always flown to Milwaukee (we work for an airline), rented a car, and stayed in a house we rented. This will be our first year in the RV; looking for any advice you may have about attending the show in a motorhome. We've stocked it and taken it on test runs so the operating issues have been addressed. I'm more concerned about where to park / stay, and any gotchas I may not see coming. For example, I saw hundreds of campers parked in areas with no hookups, but no generators allowed. How do you keep it cool at night?? And if camp Scholler is full, what are some good options with easy access to the show and that are kid-friendly? I'll have a motorcycle attached for store runs but doubt we'll tow the car this time. Any advice / input is appreciated! Thanks, and we'll see y'all there.

Family camped at Camp Scholler with a pop up and then a trailer before taking the RV-8 there last year. Never a problem getting in and they seem to be always expanding. Generators can be used anywhere daytime (I think) which is good if all you have to do is keep the battery charged. Never went for the full time generator area - probably fills up early and could be noisy. Didnít really have a problem without AC at night.

All of the info you need is on the Airventure web page.

Default Commercial Campground

If you are looking for a site with water and electric you could try one of the commercial campgrounds nearby. I stay at Sleepy Hollow Farm, which is literally surrounded by EAA. There is the Circle R Campground that is due south of the field, and they have a shuttle bus. There is also Kalbus Country near the seaplane base, but I don't know about amenities.

There are limited hookup sites available at Camp Scholler, but they are fairly expensive and you have to pay from the time you reserve until the end of the show. They are power and water, no sewer.

There is a 24 hour generator area, but it fills up quickly. There is also overflow for the 24 hour generator too. One downside of this area is there are many people who use open frame generators - they are noisy and smelly compared to the inverter types. So if you are hoping to sit outside your RV and enjoy the sights and sounds, you may be disappointed.

We have done both the 24 hour area and the hookup area. We are hoping to do the hookup area again this year. Much more pleasant in my view if you are willing to spend the $$$. I'm a cheap airline pilot too, so I understand
