As you can see from the pictures everyone's been posting and linking to, its been a great couple days of flying, BBQing and sharing the story of the RV-1!
The trip from Mishawaka to Lees Summit on 5-30 was just a great day of flying, with a nice stop in Lacon, IL comlete with RV-1 Plays Peoria T-shirts and a tank of gas, courtesy Bill Lane (thanks Bill!).
Don McNamara handed escort duties off to KC Flight at Moberly, MO, where we also met up with Paul Dye and Tsam. BeeGee Gill and KC FLight led the -1 into Lees Summit with a nice smoking 4-ship diamond, with the -1 in trail.
Mike Dooley, KC Flight and EAA 91 at LXT (Lees Summit) were phenomenal hosts! The party and presentation there was a great event, and KC flight topped it off with a nice formation demo!
On 5-31 (yesterday), the handoff between Bill, Keith and Mike of KC Flight to Steve Barger, formerly of Reno, now of Hastings, NE occured at McPherson, KS, where our host Tom Chandler greeted us with donuts (just what we needed..., well except for the waistlines ) and a fillup of avgas (thanks Tom!). I know someone has a pic of the MPR gang, so please post if you do!
Steve and KC Flight escorted the -1 to Colby, KS, where we met Jim "Gringo" Gray and the Rocky Mountain Renegades. Here's a pic of all the planes on the ramp in Colby:
And another of the Colby Crew (Keith, Bill and Mike of KC Flight front, Steve B to photo left, and the Renegades in gunmetal blue):
The next leg was a fairly bumpy 2.0 into Rocky Moutain Regional (KBJC), in Broomfield, CO, just north of Denver, near Boulder. Gringo led a smokin' 6-ship delta into BJC, which you've already seen pics of (it looked really cool from the trail position!), and we taxied into one of the larger crowds we've had so far (much like Lees Summit). A great BBQ and hangar flying session occured at Jim's hangar, and we slept in the suite above Jim's hangar last night (nice digs!).
We leave I-70 today, head north to Wyoming, where we meet Bob Ashmore and Gary Kopecky of Ogden, and resume the I-80 portion of the Barnstorming tour. Keep those pics coming, and we'll share the fun from Utah and parts west in future posts! Thanks for following along!
Cheers,
Bob
