Elevator close out tab

Good evening builders,

I just cleco'ed the top skin on the elevator and I noticed that there is a gap between the shear clip E-1022 and the close out tab that I made in the skin.

It measures just under 1/8 inch

Should I try to re-bend the skin to close that gap? Will that weaken the skin and cause problems later?

I had the same problem and re-bent mine. Problem is, while I got it to fit OK, it doesn't look good. I decided to not worry about it, and it is one of those things you don't notice once you are further down the road. If I was in your shoes though, I would experiment with sticking a spacer in there to fill the gap. Or, can you flip the shear clip and move it in tight?

Can you remove the shear clip and make one that fits? Your skin bend looks great and it won't if you mess with it.

Thats a great idea, I'll just make a new one out of some scrap. Thanks for the great idea.

Ok here is my fix. I think it came out pretty good. Thanks again for the help.
