Core $ without a rebuild AH

Does anyone know if any of the instrument overhaul stations will accept an gyro that is in need of a rebuild without purchasing a insturment? I am replacing my gyros' with an EFIS upgrade and can't see them just sitting around... What to do with them.. ?

They often will, but the offer is so low as to be laughable. I had a runout turn coordinator that had a core charge of 150$ from AQI in Tulsa. I asked if she buys them, and her offer was 45$. I mentioned the core was 150$ and she just said "thats what we buy them for."

My instrument shop - before they went out of business - told me that their parts costs had gotten so high that it was hard to compete against new units. So they cannot pay much for cores.

Then why do they charge 150 or 250 for a core
