Title search required on a second hand RV kit?

Wondering if when buying a kit second hand i.e. wings and fuselage, do you need to run a title check? Is it even possible to have a lien on a kit using the kit itself as collateral? Sorry for the obvious (possibly) question but the certified world has brain washed me and I have just recently escaped the compound!

What are you going to search? The FAA only tracks n numbers. I don't think there is any registry for kit liens.

A check with Vans would confirm that the previous owner registered his builder number with the factory...
