Rudder skins

Is there any trick to trimming the rudder skins so the rudder horn will fit onto the rudder spar. I only need to trim about 1/16" from both left and right skins. I'm worried about potential cracks in the skin at the trim site.

I used one of the shaviv curved tools since it swivels and allows you to follow the curve and do both sides of the skin. These are sold by Cleaveland and at spruce.
