Fuel Tank Build

Has anybody taken Chuck at East texas Airframes up on his offer to build the -12 tank? Given the time required if you get it right the first time and the odds of getting it right, it sounds like a pretty good deal/ Any input welcome!

Knowing what I know now, I'd do it. $40 for a quart of proseal, $20 in MEK, $5.00 for disposable plastic syringes, and a couple of shirts that are now shop rags. The stuff is a pain to work with. Yes, it's all about learning. Would I build one again if I had a reasonable option, no.

You only have to stand in Chuck's build shop, listen to him talk about the ongoing projects, and look at the partially built airframes, wings, etc. to get
an idea of his competence.
Now I don't get paid for this praise - I bought a partially built -12 from him and have marveled for months at the quality of his work.
It is nearing the certification and I know now I could have built the airframe, but I have complete faith in the little plane. Sure I paid Chuck a little money for what he did - but more important - he'll always have my boundless thanks for a job well done.

I wish somebody would post some good detail photos of an RV-12 fuel tank in various phases of assembly so the rest of us can get a clearer idea of the challenges purportedly faced.

Here ya go Rick, Marty's RV-12 blog has some great pictures of it.

IMHO the -12 tank is much easier than a wing tank. It's just a big box with easy access. I just don't remember it being a big deal once I got started.

its not the tank, its the plastic sight gauge that has caused all the problems.
