What is area on the cowling for?

Hey All, was over at the hangar today and dummied up the top cowl on the plane just to take a look at how much baffling work I've got ahead of me (I am running a 390 and used the RV14 baffle kit).

My top cowling has what looks like a provision for a cut out/door or something on the the forward right side that looks like it is ready for a cut out? Very similar to the oil door area in appearance. For the life of me I can't think what this is for but I am sure it's something simple. Do some people run a bubble/bump/blister out for something there?

Thanks!
dan

Looks like an absence of core to accommodate the AV engine while preserving the OML.

Thanks, sorry, not quite sure what you mean by "AV engine and OML"

Outside Mold line? It's only on the right side.

The right side has the most forward cylinder and will have the tightest clearance between the cylinder and cowl. So Van's provided a relief.

AV = Angle Valve.
