Masking for the fiberglass wingshield fairing

On a slider windshield, is it necessary to bring the fiberglass to a nice edge on the aluminum? On the Plexi side, I understand that you want to bring the fiberglass down to the thickness of the vinyl tape but on the aluminum side, you blend down to nothing. That would suggest that you only need to do general masking of the aluminum to keep splatters off of it. You're not too worried about getting a nice edge here right?

No masking on metal side necessary

I did not mask on the metal side. I layed up the fiberglass in staggered layers on the metal side and it was easy to sand down and or fill to get a nice smooth transition.

Didn't mask metal either . . .

But I sharpied the heck out of it to preserve the intended line. Both the actual line and one 1" back. Worked. Rick 90432
