Starter Solenoid Question

Well Known Member
Getting ready for our first engine start.

Did a final inspection of the engine compartment.

My son noticed that that there is no connection to the "I" terminal on the starter solenoid. Asked what belongs there?

Checked the schematic and it shows the "I" connection goes to the starter. I have a Sky-Tech starter (from Vans) and there is no place to connect a wire.

I did this wiring at least 2 years ago, and I am sure I knew all the details at the time.

We did not start the engine.

I am sure you guys have an answer for me..

"I" can be used to connect/disconnect the starter rather than using the starter's built-in solenoid.

Cars before electronic ignition

The I terminal is a remnant from cars before electronic ignition. A 6 volt coil was used with a resistor in series. The resistor was bypassed by the I terminal during crank when voltage was low.
