I just made the final cut on my canopy. Although I have heard (read) other complain about how thin the RV-8 canopy is, I was surprised to see mine is only 0.083? thick on the sides where the canopy bubble is tallest. That's less than 3/32?. Is this how thick all RV-8 canopies are?
At the very bottom in front it is just under 3/16?. I was worried that it gets thinner and thinner as you go to the top of the bubble. However, where the big cut is between the windscreen and the canopy, it is uniformly, just under 1/8?.
The fact that the canopy is thin may contribute to cracks, but thicker canopies crack too. I think the reason RV-8 canopies crack is because they are under so much stress by being pulled together to match the frame on the sides.
Any reassurance would be greatly appreciated. I'm fixin' to glue on my canopy tomorrow.
