DO YOU KNOW when to switch from builders to full flight coverage

Typically it?s a good idea to get full flight quotes a couple months prior to needing flying coverage. Getting quotes early will help with making a budget and will provide some time to plan how you are going to complete the training requirements. Depending on the CFI, they could be booked several months out so it can be important to get them scheduled right away. Getting quotes early will help you work out any kinks well in advance of your first flight so you can start coverage as soon as you are ready.

The aircraft can be transported to the airport and the engine can be started under the builders policy provided that the aircraft does not move under its own power. If you are going to start the engine while still covered under the builders policy, we would caution you to tie the aircraft down. If it gets away from you, the aircraft would be ?in motion under its own power? and therefor voids your coverage.

Many people start the full coverage policy when they are ready for taxi testing. (Note, we do not recommend ?high speed taxi testing? unless you?ve completed your dual instruction and the full flight coverage is in force because we?ve seen instances where the aircraft takes flight unintentionally.)

Other people wait to insure for full flight until they are ready to actually fly the aircraft. It?s up to your discretion. Just remember that the build policy only covers the aircraft for losses that occur while the aircraft is ?not in motion under its own power.?
