Need help connecting Aera 660 to GDL39 bare wire cables

My setup. GDL39-3D & bare wire cable
Aera 660 and bare wire cable
I'm trying to hard wire the units rather than use
The Bluetooth.

My old setup was Aera 550 and non 3D Gdl39

I still have my one wire coming from GTN 650 to transfer the flight plan to the Aera.

I wired the 660 the same as I did the 550.
When I power up it keeps trying to update the GDL39 but can't get past 0%

If I recall the old Aera 550 or the GDL39 had a pass-through data function?
Maybe this is why I can't get the new 660 to work?

I think my problem is this pass-through interface that the GDL-39 has.
I do not think I need to use it with this new AERA 660 ?
I think I can connect my GTN650 (flight plan out) directly to the AERA's Serial IN # 2

How it is wired now:

This would be the new wiring:
aera 660 Serial Port 1 to GDL 39:
- Connect 660 Blue Tx1 line to GDL 39 White/Green RxA
- Connect 660 Yellow Rx1 line to GDL 39 Green TxA

aera 660 Serial Port 2 receive to GTN650
- Connect 660 Purple Rx2 line to unused GTN650 RS-232 Out

Serial Port Configuration
Set Serial Port 1 on the aera 660 to "Garmin Data Transfer"
Set Serial Port 2 on the aera 660 to "Aviation In"
Set the GTN650 serial port connected to the aera 660 to "Aviation"

Jeff,

This looks like a great plan to us.

You are correct that the dual serial port Aera 660 does not use or need pass-through mode on the GDL39.

Thanks,
Steve

Thanks everyone for your help.
I FINALLY got this setup working correctly.

YES- I no longer needed to use the GDL39 as a pass through interface, so I was able to disconnect those wires.

I needed to update the software on the AERA 660, and it only took me a few minutes to get that to work.

However, I had a bear of a problem updating the GDL39 3D.
It came with version 3.10 Software, and it needed version 4.7

The AERA 660 would not update the GDL 39-3D via the bare wire cable.
It sat at 0% progress for 30 minutes. So I shut off the serial port.

I then connected it through Bluetooth and it still would not update.

I shut off the AERA 660 and connected the GDL39-3D to my Ipad via Bluetooth and the Garmin Pilot APP and (after a third attempt) was able to update the firmware.

If I did not have the Garmin APP I do not know how I would have gotten the GDL39 working.

Everything seems to be working OK. I can transfer my flight-plan from GTN650 to the Aera 660. The GDL39 is connecting nicely to my Aera as well as my Ipad Garmin Pilot APP
