Default Strobe wiring with shielded cable

I'm currently in the process of recommissioning a Vans RV-6 that was built in the early 1990s.

It has combined wingtip strobes and nav lights. There is a strobe power unit (assume Whelen) at the end of each wing.

Each power unit is fed from the panel by a three-core shielded 16ga wire, and I'm confused... I know the run from the power unit to the strobe has to be shielded, but was unaware that the supply to the power unit itself had to also be shielded.

Asking because these huge wires were cut short when the wings were removed for storage, and I need to either splice in some new shielded 16ga or pull it all out and use standard wire like I thought (or go to LEDs and save a bunch of weight).

Any advice much appreciated.

Default What I did, for what it is worth

When one of my whelen (old) strobes went bad, I took it as a sign to save weight, and amps (but not dollars) --- but I do love my Whelen Orions.
