Default Scroll Saw

Would a scroll saw work in place of a band saw for making cuts? I am pretty ignorant when it comes to most shop equipment, so sorry in advance if this is a completely silly question.

Default Replace?

Replace? Probably not, however a good scroll saw can be a great complementary tool to the bandsaw. It allows inside cuts, where a bandsaw will not.

I have a nice Dewalt scroll saw, and with an appropriate blade, it cuts aluminum fairly well...but not like a bandsaw.

While a scroll saw would not be as good as a band saw I would certainly prefer one over using a hack saw. It should work fine for you as long as you have a metal blade on it.
