I have the cheap Harbor Freight machine which I use for cutting a lot, handy.

Not likely that aluminum will be directly bendable on the machine with out doing something to increase the radius of the bend. The bend will be to tight and if does not break when you bend it it it will later on. You need to use right angle piece of steel or aluminum in the jaws to reduce the bend radius and bend on top of that.

I also have the HF cheap unit, and for occasional use, its great. The shear works well, and I've used the roller to produce skins for one of our projects. The brake can be adapted to work better with aluminum by making a long "glove" of sacrificial aluminum to increase the radius of the inside die. Otherwise yes - you get too sharp of a bend, and can get some cracking.
