King KY 97a Spikes Ammeter to -20+ amps on transmit

I look at the ratings and it should be only 6a on transmit. Any ideas? If I need to get it repaired anyone know of an economical shop? Thanks, David

Is that into a good antenna? A very poor cable/antenna with a low VSWR could easily cause a higher than usual transmit current.

Find a local radio ham with a VSWR meter to check out your system.

Odds are the radio is not drawing more current - your current meter is being affected by RFI. Look for cable cross talk, bad connectors, etc.

Had same problem, solved

by getting rid of coils of excess sensor wires behind the panel. Shortened what I could and moved everything else away form my coax.
