Default Milestone 2017

Having been building this aircraft for longer that I'd care to admit there was progress accomplished today.

Probably equal to "flipping the canoe" or being at peace with with the tip up canopy, the engine is installed.

I think I have found the tunnel and there is a faint light at the end.

Default Gear on!

Whatís a builder to do while waiting for an A&P to answer his call for assistance in building his engine? Install the landing gear of course!

This wasnít as bad as I thought it was going to be. The hardest part was dead lifting/cleaning the front of the fuse high enough to have my son push the sawhorse under for support.
Iíve read here before that the powder coating might be an issue when installing the gears. This is still true.

You can see here where the powder coating on the left is marked up from the motor mount.

I had to remove 3/16Ē from the bottom portion of the left gear and 1/4Ē from the right to get the gears up for enough to align the bolt holes. Took a little time to remove the powder coating (didnít want to remove any gear metal) but it all worked out well.

Now waiting for my Lisle bearing packer so I can install the wheels and tires and have a rolling fuse!

Default HS goes on

Last night I got my horizontal stabilizer drilled and attached to the fuselage. This is definitely one of those measure twice / cut once operations. My HS tips are within 1/16" measured to the same spot of the firewall. That took a lot of time and interrupting my spouse from catching up on Top Chef.

Initial engine start yesterday. Fired right up and ran well. No leaks! Only squawk was an inop EGT & CHT probe on the #3 cylinder (I probably swapped red wires on the EIS4000 harness -- should be an easy fix).

Getting closer to becoming an airplane .
