Fill gas cap vent hole?

yankee-flyer

Well Known Member
I know I've seen some discussion here about filling the gas cap vent hole drilled for early airplanes (3WM was #55) but there's nothing about that in the vent kit instructions. Yes or no?

THANKS

Plug the holes with tank sealant after you install and test the vent. Working vent eliminates need for venting cap and plugging holes helps to keep water out of tank. Vent also serves as a full tank indicator when carefully filling to top the vent dumps overfill out thru the vent tube preventing overfull spills onto your rear window.

Even if I should I install the vent I would still leave the cap drilled. I don't think water is a concern for my hangared plane or the occasional misty shower. If left outside it has a cover. The new vent could get bug-plugged. Sucking in the tank is a Really Bad Thing.
