Want to be comfortable flying....

...do it often.

I've been away from flying the RV-8 for a couple months (while we moved) but I'm back in the saddle. The first couple flights were a little tense, even took off with the pitot covered on one, but things are getting familiar and comfortable quickly.

What works for me in keeping up with the operation is doing it often, like a couple times a week. Flying, at least for me, is not like riding a bike. The basics never leave you but the finer points do. And its the finer points that make it fun. Flaring at just the right time does not come automatically but with practice it gets better and better.

Like Van said in one of his "flying the RV" articles, practice, practice, does make a difference. Even if its just for 15 minutes and shooting a couple landings.

The covered pitot incident - used GPS ground speed on final with a wind factor and it was a peace of cake. :)
