Nose Gear Leg Fairing

Has anyone but me had trouble tapping the 8/32 threads in the nose gear leg for the fairing?? Man!! That is some hard material. Got it drilled. Even went with the proper #29 drill bit, for the 8/32, but I sure am having trouble with the tap. I may wind up putting a bolt through, with a nut!................Tom

It is tough - -

I remember lots of talk about it way back when. Use a sharp tap, and plenty of oil, and back it out after about 1/2 turn, and just keep slowly going further each time. The tap will twist some. If you haven't broke one before, you may not know how much they will stand. ( yes, I have experience ! ! )

I don't remember it as being a problem. That means it didn't PO me at the time!

Had the same problem. In fact I broke the tap off in the hole. Ordered a removal tool and had a good time getting it out.
